John Cena Talks What Winning The US Title Would Mean to him, Working With New Talents & More

John Cena recently spoke with TheNational.ae to promote WWE’s WrestleMania 31. Below are some interview highlights:

What winning the United States Title from Rusev at WrestleMania on Sunday would mean to him:

“I think it is a beacon of achievement, I really do. Right now we are a bit of a fickle situation with a WWE Heavyweight champion [Brock Lesnar]. When he shows he does some damage, believe me. I think I spoke German after Summerslam he suplexed me so many times, but I want to be able to have a viable, competitive championship that is available at every live event, at every television screening, at every special event, and at every pay-per-view. And on top of that those who have watched WWE, I am almost overly patriotic. That is not a work, that is who I am. It gives me great pride, not just from a nostalgia factor to win the championship that I won at WrestleMania 20 but to be the bearer of the championship that essentially defines the United States.”

Working with younger talents at WrestleMania:

“I said something on Raw a while back that any moment at WrestleMania is an opportunity to make life-long memories, and you hear so many people putting stress on the main event of WrestleMania. The product has grown to such an extent essentially every match is a main event, and the goal of everyone should be just to be involved at WrestleMania. It has been a pleasure, it truly has, to see the excitement, to see the anticipation, to see the nerves of what is about to happen and it is something I still go through, but to be able to be a life-long memory in a competitive situation, a story they will have to tell for the rest of their life that is a pretty cool thing.”

Daniel Bryan Talks Giving Brock Lesnar An Intercontinental Title Shot, His Current Health, Consequences of the IC Title Ladder Match & More

WWE star Daniel Bryan was recently interviewed by TheNational.ae to hype WrestleMania tonight, and the following are some highlights:

Health concerns in competing in a ladder match so soon after returning:

“It is interesting as this entire process of me coming back has been a testing of my neck. So OK, I am going to do this, now I am going to do a little more, and push a little more. I think the WWE is concerned about how far I am going to push it. Even Shawn Michaels spoke to me yesterday and said: “You know, this ladder match, you know there are more important things than that”. But I worry about that like any time I step in the ring now as far as, how is it going to hold up? It is not really worrying, it is testing it. I have taken German suplexes on my head now since I came back and you know what? It hurt like a normal German suplex getting knocked on your head. It did not hurt any worse than that, so I am pretty confident for Sunday.”

Consequences of tonight’s Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Title:

“My fear in losing is getting lost in the shuffle, which happens all the time in the WWE and that is the worst place you can be in – lost in the shuffle and not having very much to do and that sort of thing. Winning, I see a huge upside in winning. When I came back, one of my goals was to win the Intercontinental championship. It is the only title I have not won since I have been in the WWE, obviously other than the Divas title, but also to make the Intercontinental championship something that can main event other shows.
“One of my friends is Shinsuke Nakamura, who wrestles for New Japan Pro Wrestling, and we used to room together. He did that with their Intercontinental championship to where at this last Tokyo show the Intercontinental championship main evented over their Heavyweight championship, which if I win the Intercontinental championship that would be my goal. I want people to be more excited to see what I am doing with the Intercontinental title than anything that is going on with the Heavyweight title.”
A possible match with Brock Lesnar for the Intercontinental Title in the future:
“It is interesting as I am not sure that Brock Lesnar wants to fight for the Intercontinental championship at the moment. But for him to want to fight for the Intercontinental championship against me in the future, then I would have to consider that a huge success. If Brock Lesnar, who most of the time does not want to be on Raw and does not want to be on most of the pay-per-views, if he wants to fight for the Intercontinental championship, then that would be a huge success.”

John Cena Talks Rebuilding the U.S. Title, Was Scott Steiner Barred from Entering WWE Hall of Fame?

During media day on Friday for WrestleMania 31 on tonight, John Cena had the following to say when asked about “rebuilding” the U.S. Title:

“I think it is a beacon of achievement, I really do. Right now we are a bit of a fickle situation with a WWE Heavyweight champion [Brock Lesnar] who, when he shows he does some damage, believe me. I think I spoke German after Summerslam he suplexed me so many times. I want to be able to have a viable, competitive championship that is available at every live event, at every television, at every special event, at every pay-per-view. And on top of that, those who have watched WWE, I am almost overly patriotic. That is who I am. It gives me great pride, not just from a nostalgia factor to win the championship that I won at WrestleMania 20 but to be the bearer of essentially the championship that defines the United States.”

Several people have said that upon check-in for last night’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, there was a photo of Scott Steiner hanging up by the security station, apparently barring him from entry into the event.
